Impact of Internet Growth on Ecommerce

When the Internet is mentioned, people think of e-mail. Many people also participate in chat rooms. It has been analysed that on internet very less time is spent on other activities. How are these millions of users putting the Internet to work? What do they use it for? In the past five years, using the computer has been correlated to being on the internet. Most people use the internet for social relations and it affects them by causing them to interact less with people offline but creating new social networks online. Some generously noted its potential as a general information resource. But the Internet has far surpassed such notions.

The next upcoming area or field that is promoting e-Commerce growth is e-Tailing or also known as web retailing which refers to the selling of retail goods electronically over the Internet which is also called "electronic retailing". The growth in the E-tailing market is driven by the need to save time by urban India. Besides with over 1.5 billion internet users, access to internet has also played an important role in growing the markets. E-Tailing is a medium through which people in small & less developed cities can also purchase the goods online and make payments through credit/debit cards.

One of the startups in this emerging trends is www.globalonlinesubscription (GOS) launched by Total IT Solutions Pvt. Ltd. (TIT)   is a platform providing exclusive books, magazines, journals, databases (print as well as online) at competitive prices which make GOS a unique repository of all resources that libraries/readers want.

A recent study of the e-tailing market in India, performed by the Internet and Mobile Association of India (IAMAI), estimates the size of the online retailing market for 2006–2007 at Rs 850 crores (about US$198 million). E-tailing contributed nearly 12% (about $24 million) to the total e-commerce market size during the year. The report says: "With branded stores coming online, providing consistent service delivery, both online and offline, this segment is expected to rise by 30% to Rs 11 billion (approximately $26 million) at the end of 2007–2008. If these statistics are really correct, the retail trade volume could really triple over the next 8-10 years.
