Adsense Referral Changes

Posted on 1.08.2008

Google announced that there will be some upcoming changes to its referral program. Only referral units promoting AdSense will be affected by the changes.

Previously, the structure was such that those referred to to the program that earned $5 within 180 days of sign-up, publishers that provided the referral would also earn $5 - if that publisher earned $100 within 180 days and removed all payment holds, the publisher would receive $250.

Now Google is going back to its original pricing structure. The change essentially means that there will no longer be bonuses (e.g. refer 25 new publishers and get a $2,000 bonus) and that the payout for referring a user who generates $100 with AdSense in the first 180 days will return to $100. These pricing changes will take place during the last week of January.

If you are outside of North America, Latin America or Japan, the referral program will soon be retired.
