Apple Will Allow Carriers to Subsidize iPhones
A welcome announcement out of the Apple camp: Carriers will be allowed to offer deep discounts to consumers on the new iPhone, according to The Financial Times. This means that the number of units sold will boom. The savings discounts will make the iPhone accessible to a much wider audience, and soften the blow if/when Apple discounts the iPhone shortly after release, like they did with the first version of the touch-screen juggernaut. It's rumored that AT&T could be offering discounts into the $200 neighborhood. This also means that Sprint, with their competing Instinct and Blackberry, with their rumored touch-screen Thunder should be on high alert.
