Firefox Add-on of the Day: Glubble Family Edition

Posted on 3.19.2008
The Web can be a scary place for parents - there's no shortage of material inappropriate for children. The Glubble Family Edition Firefox add-on looks to help parents and protect children by restricting what websites can be viewed. Only those sites specifically chosen will be available through Glubble. The add-on works through multiple Firefox browsers using a browser personalization engine from Glaxstar, so family members can be linked together across live browsing sessions. Kids can "ask a helper" - requesting permission to see new sites and parents can add sites at any time by clicking the +Add button, all on the fly.

One neat feature is the modified Google search. Glubble automatically modifies search results, returning only those sites that have been family approved. So kids can still scour the Internet for information - say, for some help with homework - while parents can feel secure that the kids aren't visiting the darkest corners of the Web.
