Google has announced a new version of Google Analytics - a popular and valuable tool that helps website owners gain insight into a site's performance, how visitors arrive and what they do once they get there - among other things. As website data and information become more mainstream, a better understanding of the context of analytics is important. As Brett Crosby, senior manager for Google Analytics put it, server logs have made their way from the machine room to the boardroom.

The revamped Google Analytics features "new e-mail reporting, customizable dashboards, improved map displays, and plain language descriptions to make important information more accessible," according to Google.

New users who sign up for Google Analytics will have immediate access, while those already enrolled will have access over the next several weeks. The old version will be available for 30 days after the new verstion becomes available for use.
