Is Your Server Safe?

Posted on 11.13.2007
Researcher David Litchfield, managing director of NGSSoftware conducted a survey of more than one million randomly generated IP addresses and found some ditsturbing results. "There are approximately 368,000 Microsoft SQL Servers ... and about 124,000 Oracle database servers directly accessible on the Internet," he wrote. Essentially, that's more than 500,000 database servers without firewall protection. What's more, many servers have gone unpatched for several years. Four percent of the SQL Server databases were still vulnerable to a 2003 SQL Slammer worm. "People aren't protecting themselves with firewalls and the patch levels are atrocious," said Litchfield.

Litchfield's findings are set to be published on Monday, November 19 on his website, Databasesecurity.com. Now may be a good time to contact your server and find out, just how secure is your information ?
