Majority of Malware Comes From U.S.

Posted on 8.19.2007

Cyveillance, a self-described "world leader in cyber intelligence," has released a report indicating that more than 63% of malware is distributed on U.S. websites. Overall, the reports states that more than 2 million URLs distributed malicious downloads to site visitors.

Phishing attacks are also continuing to evolve. Cyveillance reports " ...a 20% increase in the aggregate quantity of brands targeted, indicating that phishers continue to change targets. Since 2005 over 1,400 companies have been attacked." More than 80% of those brands targeted by phishing attacks were financial institutions Data for the reports was collected between April 1 and June 30, 2007.

While not completely surprising, it is important to take security into consideration - your visitors will. A secure site is one that converts. Remember to assure your visitors that your site is safe and any transactions or personal information will be kept secure. Posting your privacy policy (or at least a teaser and link) on every page of your site is highly recommended. Even if its not read, just the fact that you offer it will make users feel safer.
