New and Interesting MySpace Age Demographics
According to comScore Media Metrix's analysis os U.S. Internet traffic measurements, half of MySpace users are 35 or older. Only 30% are under 25 - flying in the face of popular assumptions about the massive Web 2.0 site.
One year ago, the under 18 crowd made up about 25% of users, a number that has since declined to about 12%. The 35-54 group has ballooned 41%, up from 32% a year ago.
Said Jack Flanagan, executive vice president for comScore, "This analysis confirms that the appeal of social-networking sites is far broader."
It's a significant shift, indicating that MySpace is becoming much more mainstream. It is important to note that the data came from comScore's regular panels for measuring measuring Internet audiences, not MySpace information - users often lie about their age with the MySpace parameters.
This is important information for advertisers looking to take advantage of the enormous MySpace user base. If you have considered advertising on MySpace pages but resisted because of the age barrier, fear no more.
