Search The Web Over

Posted on 3.06.2008
Sometimes you need to search many different portals to find exactly what you want. And that can be a hassle.

Sputtr provides a page that can help you search multiple sources without needing to visit each one of them. Enter your search term, click the button of the database you want to search and get results.

What I like: The layout is clean and there are sources to search from that I may not have otherwise thought to search. Your search page is customizable - you can add and remove sources.

What I don't like: You can't search multiple sources at once. You must get back to the Sputtr page each time you want to search another source. In the settings, you can select to have the results displayed in a new window - that helps, although I don't like shuffling multiple windows.

The verdict: It's a neat idea and can save some time by having so many sources on one page. With some time it has potential to get even better. What would really be nice is some kind of toolbar or buttons on each results page to skip from one source to the next. It could be a nice tool to see how your website or blog stacks up in various search databases.
