Social Shopping with DealQUE

Posted on 5.26.2008
With all the social sites out there vying for users' attention, it's not easy to make an impact. What's needed is something very useful, as there are enough time-wasting sites out there. DealQUE is hoping to provide something truly useful, in the way of helping fellow online shoppers find good deals.

The concept is pretty simple. Users submit deals they find online to share with the rest of the community, thereby saving everyone some money. When you see a deal you think is hot, "que" it so that it works its way to the home page, like many social content aggregators. In addition to user input, the DealQUE staff also scours the Web for shopping bargains and posts them.

Users who are active on the site by submitting deals and see their deals rise in popularity will receive points, that will be used towards DealQUE giveaways as incentive.

Online retailers can also integrate their listings with DealQUE and get a badge to display on websites and next to products. Then other users can submit your product to DealQUE, thereby gaining more exposure and hopefully sales.

So far the user base is small, but growing. And like anything social its going to take a large user base and heightened activity for DealQUE to become a success. The concept is great and no doubt very useful for consumers. Participation is key and I get the feeling that giveaways (so far only an iPod Nano) might not be enough. Perhaps user activity could be rewarded with even deeper discounts as a better incentive. That way, users could choose what they want and get a better price than they could find anywhere else. The site is in beta, so expect refinements and even more deals in the near future.
