A New Direction - WM Briefs

Posted on 2.22.2012

StumbleUpon wants to establish its own unique ecosystem that keeps users within the StumbleUpon framework at all times, instead of letting them venture off every time they stumble upon something worthwhile. To achieve this, the company is eliminating direct links. It used to be that users could simply ‘X’ out of the StumbleUpon page and be sent right to the original site they were visiting, but that’s no longer the case. Now users have to stay inside the framed version of the site as long as they’re logged into StumbleUpon. The worst news for Web workers is that StumbleUpon is suddenly far less useful for SEO purposes, as this process negatively affects referral traffic.
