A Search Engine Without Links?

The pursuit of backlinks can be exhausting for today's digital marketers and search engine optimization professionals, but according to a new video from Matt Cutts, you're better off as an end-user with search engines that place some significance on these virtual citations.

Google's head of search spam indicates in the video below that his team has run internal tests to see what would happen, but that the results were "much worse" when it comes to search quality.

“It turns out backlinks, even though there’s some noise and certainly a lot of spam, for the most part are still a really, really big win in terms of quality for search results,” says Cutts.
