■ Salesforce announced its agreement to acquire
social media marketing platform Buddy
Media for approximately $689 million. The enterprise
software giant also recently acquired
collaboration tool company Stypi, not long
after its purchase of social media monitoring
platform Radian6. Buddy Media works with
many of the world’s largest brands including
HP, Virgin Mobile, Mattel and L’Oreal.
■ Oracle has entered into an agreement to acquire Vitrue, a leading cloud-based social marketing and engagement platform that enables marketers to create, publish, moderate, manage, measure and report on their social marketing campaigns and activities on platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, YouTube and Google+.
■ SAP has agreed to buy cloud computing services provider Ariba for $4.5 billion. The German business software maker and Oracle rival will be expanding its cloud-based services with the acquisition, which is being done through its American subsidiary. Sunnyvale, California-based Ariba has become the second largest cloud vendor by revenue.
■ BazaarVoice recently announced that it will buy competing ratings-and-review technology provider PowerReviews in a transaction worth $151.9 million. The deal includes a cash payment of approximately $31 million and the transfer of up to 8 million shares of Bazaarvoice stock, and the company expects to close the deal by the end of July.
■ IBM recently announced the completion of its acquisition of Vivisimo, a provider of discovery and navigation software that helps organizations access and analyze big data. The combination of IBM and Vivisimo software accelerates IBM’s big-data initiatives aimed to help clients analyze the volume, variety and velocity of data.
■ Google recently announced its agreement to buy social media platform Meebo for an estimated price of $100 million. Meebo launched in 2005 and offers a Web-based instantmessage client as well as the Meebo Bar for publishers that adds a persistent social sharing and advertising overlay onto their sites.
