Acquisitions and Milestones - WM Briefs
■ Groupon recently announced its acquisition of Adku,
a startup that uses big data to personalize the online
shopping experience for consumers visiting e-commerce
sites such as Amazon, eBay and Zappos. The
purchase price was estimated to be somewhere north of
$10 million, with Groupon’s focus being on Adku’s talent
■ LinkedIn announced its plans to acquire Rapportive, which makes a browser plugin that overlays Gmail with contextual information about email contacts. This deal was also estimated to be for slightly more than $10 million, and is LinkedIn’s second purchase of a contact management startup in the past six months. The business social network acquired Connected in the fall of 2011.
■ Twitter recently announced its acquisition of Dasient, an up-and-coming security vendor for large enterprises. Speculation is that Dasient’s anti-malware technology will be used either to prevent malicious ads from infiltrating Twitter’s emerging self-serve ad platform and/or preventing phishing attacks from targeting users in direct messages and @mentions.
■ Akamai announced its acquisition of Blaze Software, whose technology focuses on accelerating website load times and cutting bandwidth costs. Global content delivery and Web services provider Akamai plans to integrate the technology into its cloud platform to help enterprise clients provide optimized and secure Web and mobile experiences for end-users.
■ 33Across, a social analytics company and ad network, announced that it has acquired publisher analytics tools provider Tynt Multimedia. Tynt aggregates data to inform publishers about their audiences. The purchase includes all of the company’s technologies, patents and filings, analytics and toolsets.
■ OwnerIQ, a real-time media-buying platform, has acquired the on-demand shopper marketing technology platform DiJiPOP in an all-stock deal.
■ Klout has announced its acquisition of Blockboard — previously known as BlockChalk — which is a mobile application/community bulletin board. Klout is a service that measures online social influence across a variety of networks.
