Flash vs. Silverlight

Posted on 4.17.2007
Microsoft unveiled Silverlight this week, a new cross-browser, cross-platform plug-in for delivering media (rich interactive applications - RIA's) for the Web which is expected to compete with Adobe's Flash product. It looks as though SilverLight has some interesting features including the ability to incorporate video, animation and interactivity into applications for developers and designers using the Microsoft .NET framework. Silverlight integrates with your existing infrastructure and applications, including Apache, PHP, as well as JavaScript and XHTML on the client side. The software company will announce further details about the technology at its own Mix07 conference, which starts at the end of April and runs through May 2 in Las Vegas. Early supporters of the new platform include Akamai Technologies Inc., Brightcove Inc., Eyeblaster Inc., Limelight Networks, Major League Baseball and Netflix Inc.
