Amazon Enters the 3-D Printing Arena
With its broad range on items and services available for purchase, Amazon has become a go-to site for many customers. With its latest announcement, Amazon hopes to take advantage of a new market that is poised to grow.
Amazon has announced the launch of their new 3D Printing Store where customers can select from a variety of products as well as personalize their own product to be printed.
Currently, the new store has six main categories: Jewelry, Home & Kitchen, Toys & Games, Electronics, Cell Phones & Accessories and Customize Your Own Products. On each product page there is an option to view the item in 3-D allowing the customer to spin and rotate the item so they can see it from all angles.
When electing to customize a product, customers select from number of base designs and then add their unique flavor through a number of different options that vary with each product. One example is when personalizing the Slim Wallet, customers can choose its color, background pattern, decal as well as top and bottom text.
“The introduction of our 3D Printed Products store suggests the beginnings of a shift in online retail - that manufacturing can be more nimble to provide an immersive customer experience," said Director for Amazon Marketplace Sales Petra Schindler-Carte. "Sellers, in alignment with designers and manufacturers, can offer more dynamic inventory for customers to personalize and truly make their own."
