App Annie Acquires Distimo
App Annie is looking to spruce up its mobile analytics platform, as the company has raised a $17 million round of funding and made its first acquisition.
App Annie acquired Distimo, which is a mobile analytics company. Through the acquisition, App Annie plans to accelerate its product roadmap and continue developing its platform for analyzing the mobile app ecosystem. Together with Distimo, there are now almost 600,000 apps relying on App Annie's platform and almost 270,000 registered business users.
Distimo’s founders will take on key roles within App Annie’s team as part of the acquisition, while the rest of the team will be integrated into App Annie’s global offices. Moreover, Distimo’s Netherlands headquarters will become App Annie’s European R&D center. According to Distimo's blog, the company will be working with App Annie to integrate all of its best features into the App Annie platform.
"When this is complete, we will start a smooth migration process so that all of the data you hold with Distimo is seamlessly accessible on App Annie," the blog post states. "We will keep all Distimo users and customers regularly updated."
Aside from the acquisition, App Annie raised a $17 million round of funding from its existing investors IDG Capital Partners, Greycoft Partners and Seqoia Capital. The new funding brings App Annie’s total money raised to $39 million, which is being used to fund the Distimo acquisition as well as other initiatives, like product development, marketing and market development.
"We started this company during the app ecosystem's infancy and our mission has always been to provide our users and customers with the best metrics and insights to run their app business," said Bertrand Schmitt, CEO of App Annie. "Having been a part of the mobile app ecosystem since its inception, this acquisition represents a major milestone in App Annie's growth, and it allows us to accelerate our product roadmap. We look forward to integrating the talented Distimo team and are excited about what they can achieve within the App Annie fold."
