App Watch - December 2011
Within each issue of Website Magazine, our editors feature a few of the top mobile applications released that month. This month, those that caught our attention include Facebook's iPad app, the Roambi presentation app, Instapaper Pro and PrintCentral. Do you have a suggestion for the App Watch column within Website Magazine? If so, send an email to our editors at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Facebook iPad App: Better late than never — the Facebook
app for the iPad finally arrived in iTunes
in early October. This long-awaited app is free,
and gives Apple an additional one-up in the tablet
sector, since none of the tablets that run Google’s
Android software have a custom-made Facebook
app yet. The app provides options to view the
newsfeed, message friends, find nearby friends
Roambi: This iPhone and iPad presentation app transforms your data into interactive and colorful charts and graphs. Then it will automatically send them straight to your mobile device of choice. The free version of the app syncs with Microsoft Excel, and for a $795 one-time license fee you can integrate it with solutions like SAP BusinessObjects or IBM Cognos.
Instapaper Pro: Instapaper Pro is a handy app that does away with having to connect your device to the Internet using a WiFi hotspot to read important blog posts, whitepapers or other content on the Web. The app saves those pages so that you can just get to them whenever you have a free minute, without having to worry about finding an Internet connection.
PrintCentral: In the growing world of mobile, one hindrance still seems to be the ability to conveniently print out important material. This is a problem that PrintCentral does a great job of addressing, allowing users to print pretty much anything from anywhere. It also allows users to access documents in the cloud or those stored on their computers without having to download them.
