Textastic Code Editor

The Textastic iPad app enables users to edit text and code for more than 80 programming and markup languages. The $9.99 app is compatible with Textmate syntax definitions and themes, and offers code completion for HTML, CSS, JavaScript and PHP functions. Other features include a full keyboard dock, bluetooth keyboard support, customizable font, as well as local and remote Web preview for HTML and Markdown files. Textastic has been rated with five stars inside of the iTunes App Store, and has received positive reviews such as, “It’s been a great way to do a little development while out and about.”

Square Merchant


This Android app helps merchants achieve smoother transactions. Instead of punching in the same information every time a sale is made with the Square credit card reader, the Square Merchant app enables users to list items, assign photos and sell items with the push of a button. The app also allows merchants to sell multiple items in one transaction through a shopping cart feature. The app is $0.99, and requires users to already have the Square credit card app.


View and share files onthe- go with the Box app for Android and iOS. The free app works on both phone and tablet devices. It enables users to collaborate with colleagues and friends, store files online, upload images and videos, as well as open and edit files in other compatible apps. The service provides a secure way to share and save content, and currently has more than 7 million users.


This iPad-exclusive app is a great tool for artists and designers looking to paint, sketch or edit photos. The $4.99 app comes with many features, including customizable brush settings, HD canvas size, smudge and eraser tools, the ability to create 16 layers and access 100 redo/undo states, as well as the ability to import images from the iPad’s photo library. The app’s auto-save feature also ensures that users will never lose their work. Once a masterpiece is created, the artwork can be exported to the user’s photo library, to iTunes or inserted into an email.


As a handwriting notetaking app for Android Honeycomb tablets, Quill’s goal is to produce quick response to pen strokes and achieve 100-percent vector graphics. Features include a fountain pen mode that supports pen pressure data, the ability to switch between notebooks, a pen only mode, PDF and PNG export, page tagging and more. At a price of only $1, this app is a great option for any Android tablet owner looking to turn their tablet into a notebook.


Host your own meetings directly from your mobile device. The Calliflower app enables users to host a variety of meetings ranging from conference calls to webinars with more than 100 participants. Other features of this meeting tool include calendar integration capabilities, interactive chats with links and images, collaborative and lecture mode, recording options, as well as the ability to make international calls. The app is free for the first 14 days of service, after which a paid subscription that starts at $13.95 a month is required.


Stay on schedule — and make sure your employees do, too —with this app. Users can check work schedules, release or swap shifts, pick up
shifts, input upcoming schedule requests, message each other, call and email contacts. Business owners and managers also have the ability to view daily rosters, create digital logbook entries, enter approvals and track sales and labor. iSchedule is available for both iOS and Android users at a price of $2.99.

Balanced Scorecard

The Balanced Scorecard app is iPad-compatible, and provides its users with a dashboard that displays graphics and metrics to outline a business’ success. This $24.99 app can be utilized to design strategic maps, define objectives, identify key performance indicators, assign responsibility for indicators, analyze variances, build reports and more.
