Bigcommerce Makes Move After Funding

Posted on 9.22.2013

There are 250 billion reasons why brick-and-mortar retailers need to be online, as the e-commerce market generates roughly that amount in revenue each year – and it’s growing.

Bigcommerce looks to lower the barriers to entry for merchants with its e-commerce platform and recently announced partnership with Heartland Payment Systems, with the goal of making it simpler to create and manage online stores.

Heartland’s Online Storefront enables merchants to launch online stores in less than one hour or upgrade their existing e-commerce sites with shopping cart functionality and other features that will sit atop the Bigcommerce platform.

To put this partnership in context, when Website Magazine spoke to Bigcommerce Chief Revenue Officer Steven Power after the company’s $40 million investment from Steve Case, he told us the funds would allow Bigcommerce to get more clients in more countries, become a one stop shop for anyone who wants to sell online and, overall, make the Bigcommerce platform more comprehensive and easy to use.

The Heartland partnership will definitely aid in Bigcommerce’s “one-stop shop” goal, as Heartland’s Online Storefront offers omni-commerce features that can help meet today’s consumer expectations, while growing a retailer’s business. These features include mobile-optimized websites, secure payment processing, digital marketing tools (e.g. SEO, promotions, coupons, etc.), "abandoned cart saver" and integration with eBay and social media networks like Twitter, Facebook and Pinterest.

Some merchants who are already using the combined solutions are: Bon Bon Online, buycellular.com, Panacea Jewelry, The Equine Gourmet, Tradewinds International and many more.

“We created PanaceaJewelry.com to expand beyond normal resale channels, enabling our thousands of customers to purchase securely online while increasing our market presence dramatically,” said Dennis Hassell, Vice President of Sales and Marketing, Panacea Jewelry, Retail Department Division. “Using the Heartland Online Storefront platform, we quickly and easily set up a complete online shop featuring a clean look that complements our unique handmade merchandise. Integrated apps made our shipping and payment processing seamless, while out-of-the-box features like social shopping will help us increase traffic and conversion.”
