Blocked Resources Report in GWT

Posted on 3.16.2015

Google is now notifying webmasters about the specific resources that are blocking its bots from crawling a website in full.

The new Blocked Resources report in Google Webmaster Tools reveals which resources are being blocked and from which hosts; the hosts that provide resources on your site (e.g. a CDN for example), which are being blocked by robots.txt rules (preventing Google's bots/spiders from crawling). If resources such as linked images, CSS and Javascript files in Web pages are blocked, then Googlebot can't use them when rendering those pages for search.

What Web professionals (and SEOs) are really going to enjoy is the depth of the insights of the Blocked Resources report and the guidance necessary to actually resolve any issues uncovered.

The report, according to Google, "starts with the names of the hosts from which your site is using blocked resources such as JavaScript, CSS, and images. Clicking on the rows gives you the list of blocked resources and then the pages that embed them, guiding you through the steps to diagnose and resolve how we're able to crawl and index the page's content.
