Borderfree Helps Top U.S. Retailers Connect to Chinese Shoppers

Posted on 11.09.2014

Borderfree is helping some of the top retailers in the U.S. connect with Chinese shoppers this holiday season, thanks to the company’s collaboration with Chinese e-payments service provider Alipay.

The collaboration will enable American retailers on a new pilot program to leverage the Alipay ePass solution to reach online shoppers in China. The program will be made available throughout the holiday season and will include retailers like Saks Fifth Avenue, Bloomingdale’s, Macy’s, Ann Taylor and Aéropostale.

Borderfree’s launch of the Alipay ePass program addresses some of the challenges American retailers have with selling in China. For example, the program offers Chinese consumers a familiar cross-border shopping experience that pairs Borderfree’s global e-commerce platform with Alipay’s ePass solution, which provides merchants with payments and logistics services as well as the marketing reach of Alipay in China.

It is important to note that online shoppers in China will receive Borderfree’s localized customer experience, including marketing messages, promotions and pricing in Chinese Renminbi. Moreover, shoppers are taken to a modified checkout that is offered in Mandarin Chinese and is designed to deliver a familiar experience to Chinese consumers.

“We believe the time is finally right for retailers to aggressively enter the Chinese market, and Borderfree is actively exploring new ways to help our customers more effectively reach this tremendous consumer base,” said Michael DeSimone, Chief Executive Officer, Borderfree. “Testing new services like Alipay ePass is part of our ongoing commitment to enhance the cross-border shopping experience for Chinese consumers. We are very excited to collaborate with Alipay and look forward to rolling out additional services aimed at helping retailers sell to China in the months to come.”
