Brightcove Pushes Play on Yelp Videos
Brightcove is helping Yelp push play on consumer reviews, as the company is powering Yelp’s new video review feature.
Yelp’s video review feature, which was first announced in May, enables Yelp users to upload short video clips up to 12 seconds long as a new, engaging way to review a business. This functionality is being powered by Brightcove’s Video Cloud online platform and the Brightcove Zencoder cloud-based encoding service.
While video reviews were rolled out to Yelp’s Elite users in early July, the functionality is now rolling out to the rest of the public. Video content can range from scenery and the setting of a business, to the ambiance and services inside the business. Once uploaded, other users will be able to view the videos through the Yelp mobile app.
Yelp is leveraging Brightcove’s Video Cloud to allow video uploads to iPhone, and the company plans to add Android devices in the near future. It is important to note that the iPhone app is also leveraging the Brightcove Zencoder service to deliver videos to Video Cloud, where the videos are encoded in various renditions to play back across devices.
“This is an exciting time in the evolution of Yelp, and the addition of videos proves the company’s commitment to giving its users and businesses around the world the best possible experience,” said Anil Jain, senior vice president and general manager for media at Brightcove. “We are proud to partner with Yelp and look forward to working together to add more video features and offerings in the future.”
