Build Responsive Emails with Ink

Marketers cannot control what devices their emails are read on, which means that all messages need to be optimized for mobile nowadays. But despite the fact that more than 40 percent of emails are opened on mobile devices, many marketers are still sending out messages that are difficult to read on the small screen.

This is where Ink comes in handy. Ink is new framework from Zurb that enables users to build responsive HTML email messages that work everywhere – even on Outlook, which is an email client that Zurb found to have problems with responsive templates in the past. In fact, Ink offers an “Outlook first” approach that enables users to build for Outlook and then enhance messages for more capable clients. Plus, Ink offers documentation to help users get started, comes with a hosted CSS inliner so users can ensure messages appear correctly in Gmail, supports all major email clients and provides a total of five sample responsive templates that can be used as a starting point. 

It is important to note that Ink also compliments Zurb’s other offerings, including the company’s responsive front-end framework Foundation, as well as Playground, the company’s collection of responsive email templates.

"If you're not considering mobile devices for your emails, you're not just crazy, you're already irrelevant,” said Jonathan Smiley, partner at ZURB and creator of Foundation. “Ink is taking what we learned about frameworks from Foundation, and applying it to responsive emails.”
