Compare Developer Salaries By Location, Skillset & Experience

Web and application developers are the kings of the information age. So how much are they earning? And how does their salary compare to their colleagues? You're about to find out!

Stack Overflow recently made available a tool that enables developers to find out how much others in their area are earning. The data used for the new developer salary calculator is based on information from the site's annual developer survey.

Developers just need to enter in some general information on their location (which is perhaps one of the most significant factors influencing salary), education, years of experience, job type (e.g., data scientist, full stack developer, designer, etc.) and the technologies in which they are proficient.

The salary for a designer with seven years of experience in New York, with a bachelor's degree and some skills in JavaScript, for example, could be earning anywhere from $82,000 to $117,000 based on the Stack Overflow data (see chart below). One of the other interesting features of the new tool is that not only will it show annual salaries, but will also offer up a few jobs where developers might be a good fit based on the information provided by developers.
