Focus on MySpace & CGM

What online entity is the greatest online threat to the big four search engines? It may be MySpace as consumer generated media sites like this are gaining in popularity at over 1000% per year. Bill Tancer from Hitwise recently posted about the volume of traffic sent to Google from MySpace.com social communities, "MySpace Tops In sending Google traffic."

Via Tancer's Blog: After running a few reports, I was somewhat shocked to see that myspace.com was the #1 upstream provider of traffic to Google, supplying an astonishing 8.2% of all traffic (the next closest provider was MSN @ 4.0%!).

The data clearly reveals the importance of consumer generated media in terms of traffic. Search is an important part of a company's marketing mix in today's online marketing world and many Web experts agree that you'll soon see a portal/search feature very soon - so leave some room in your online media budget.
