There are plenty of software platform options for Internet retailers to consider to power their digital presence, but Magento has long topped the list for serious, savvy sellers. One of the reasons, of course, is because it just keeps getting better.

At its recent Imagine conference, the digital commerce powerhouse announced several major improvements will be coming to its Commerce Cloud product this summer, including new capabilities for shopping, content management, social commerce, payments and business intelligence.

Let's take a closer look at what's coming up for the popular platform, particularly Magento Shipping, a new "intelligent," multi-carrier solution designed to automate shipping and fulfillment for brands.

As many merchants will understand, a majority of cart abandonment is related directly to shipping costs and convenience. Magento Shipping intends to provide an end-to-end solution, however, that provides greater control over shipping and fulfillment, effectively reducing cart abandonment and unlocking business efficiencies to accelerate growth.

With more than $101 billion in commerce generated annually on the Magento platform, Magento Shipping opens a huge opportunity for carriers and merchants alike to create new customer experiences on a global scale.

Magento also announced the addition of advanced content management capabilities thanks to its BlueFoot CMS, a solution designed to simplifies content creation and management thanks to powerful tools and intuitive user interfaces. By empowering non-technical teams to own and deploy content, according to Magento, the CMS will enable merchants to launch more compelling shopping experiences that drive conversion.

The company announced Magento Social (a solution for merchants looking to develop and extend a social media presence), as well as an analytics solution (Magento Business Intelligence Essentials) for merchants wanting to understand performance and visibility as it relates to customers, products and orders.

"In today's fast-paced, noisy economy, brands need to anticipate and deliver exceptional experiences ahead of consumer demand. Commerce must come to customers, whenever and wherever they want it," said Jason Woosley, SVP of product and technology at Magento. "These additions to Magento Commerce Cloud demonstrate our commitment to providing leading capabilities to merchants as they compete in this new era of commerce."
