Develop for the IoT with Cylon

Posted on 4.08.2015

You have no doubt heard about the Internet of Things (or IoT), but if you're interested in getting involved - and on the very ground floor - you'll need to start developing some creative and useful applications.

Fortunately, there are some interesting solutions emerging to help designers and developers do just that.

Cylon.js, for example, is an open source robotics and IoT framework that just released the first version of its solution. Cylon supports over 35 different hardware and software platforms, and the JavaScript framework can also connect using Machine to Machine (M2M) API standards such as REST and MQTT.

"Cylon.js has made robotics and hardware hacking a lot simpler for software and web developers of all ages and skill levels," according to Rex St. John, IoT Evangelist at Intel. "I look forward to the coming era now that all that is needed to program advanced IoT projects is curiosity and the ability to write a little JavaScript."
