Digital Distribution & the Future of Travel & Leisure for Publishers

Posted on 4.13.2016

Geo-mapping startup HallStreet, which offers a map-based, interactive events and travel planner, has been acquired by city-specific destination guide publisher Time Out Group.

Time Out’s investment in this technology, which combines "meta-search with interactive e-commerce," is a rather logical evolution of its business as a "platform for discovery and enablement" rather than as a publisher alone.

The acquisition of HallStreet provides Time Out's portfolio of city websites an opportunity to allow both leisure and business travelers a means to plan trips to events such as trade shows, weddings and festivals using content from a number of partners including Restaurants.com, Hotels.com and Ticketmaster.

“We’ve been looking at technology startups that further enable our vision for the future of travel and leisure distribution," said Julio Bruno, Executive Chairman at Time Out Group.

"The HallStreet platform has reinvented the way people plan leisure activities, using dynamic maps in a simple, end-to-end and stress-free experience. Their talented team of engineers will become an important piece of the vision to help consumers ‘Discover, Book, Share’, as Time Out continues its development as a leading global marketplace in the entertainment and hospitality space.”

Time Out Group also acquired user-recommendation solution LikeCube back in August of 2015.
