Don’t Worry, Be Appy: Net Briefs
At least that was Facebook’s strategy
after its historic IPO in May saw
stock prices plummet and irate investors’
blood pressure levels skyrocket.
In the midst of it all, the social network boldly
launched its own app directory that will enable users to easily
discover and install various apps through their Facebook
accounts. The new App Center launched with 600 free applications
that are split up into different categories such as
games, entertainment, lifestyle and music. Perhaps this move
will help restore the site’s growth rate back to previous levels,
as comScore recently reported that the number of Facebook’s
unique visitors grew just 5 percent in April 2012 —
compared to 24 percent in April 2011 and 89 percent in 2010.
