According to an annual report by Afilias, a leading .INFO registry operator, registrations of the .INFO extension are on the rise. Out of all new top-level domain (TLD) registrations since 2001, .INFO leads the way with more than five million registered domains. This outpaces registrations of other new TLDs such as .biz, .mobi, .me, .eu and .asia. None of these, of course, compare with registration of .com, which still accounts for more than 40 percent of all domains under management, according to Afilias. They claim that more than one million unique websites with dedicated content are based on the .INFO extension, or 19.3 percent of all .INFO websites. Other uses of .INFO include referrals (links to other sites) at 14%, redirections to another TLD (35%), parked sites (2.7%) and inactive or "not found" sites (28%).

Also interesting, the report shows that .INFO domains are quite active in the reseller market. It states that the average price paid for a previously registered .INFO domain was $2,800 through September 2009, according to DNJournal.com. The highest was dubai.info, at $35,000. Not too bad for domains that can often be purchased well below standard .com registration prices.
