Drive App Downloads & Increase Mobile Search Visibility
App Indexing is helping developers drive Android app downloads.
If App Indexing has been implemented, people searching on Google can discover indexed content from the app if they haven’t downloaded it yet. Indexed content from apps will show up in relevant searches conducted on Google and Android devices, with “app install” call-to-actions (CTAs) being displayed next to the indexed content. By clicking on the CTA, users will be directed to the Google Play store where they can install the app and continue straight on to the content within it.
“You’ve invested time and effort into making your app an awesome experience, and we want to help people find the great content you’ve created,” Google states in its announcement. “App Indexing has already been helping people engage with your Android app after they’ve installed it — we now have 30 billion links within apps indexed.”
It is also important to note with the addition of the install links, Google is starting to use App Indexing as a ranking signal for all Android users – regardless if they have the app installed or not. In fact, this is part of Google’s new mobile search ranking algorithm.
“Starting today, we will begin to use information from indexed apps as a factor in ranking for signed-in users who have the app installed,” Google said in a February announcement. “As a result, we may now surface content from indexed apps more prominently in search.”
