Dropbox Acquisition Show App Platform Intentions

Posted on 4.20.2014

Dropbox has acquired several startups in the productivity and media space over the last few months, including photo app Loom, collaborative document tool Hackpad, corporate chat tool Zulip and social e-book reader Readmill.

The Loom and Hackpad acquisitions are the most recent acquisitions by Dropbox. The apps will likely be made available to its 275 million users in short order as Dropbox continues building its own application platform... perhaps readying itself for an eventual IPO.

Dropbox acquired several companies last year including Sold, Foundry Hiring, Endorse and Tapengage, and received $350 million in funding in late January 2014.

The popular file storage and sharing service also made the news earlier this month when Condeollezza Rice joined its Board of Directors.
