E-Commerce Genius in Aisle 5

When it comes to the decision to buy online or in-store, consumers often choose the latter for convenience, like when they need to get products in a hurry or don't want to pay for shipping/returns.

Retailers with both e-commerce websites and brick-and-mortar locations are finding ways to cater to both their online and in-store audiences in myriad ways, but an aisle-locator just may be one of the best ways to get last-minute shoppers to feel good about powering down their computers and heading to the store or sending a loved one to go for them.

The Home Depot presents a perfect example of an aisle-locator (see image) because its e-commerce site not only knows its stores' inventory (a foundation of omni-channel commerce), but also because Home Depot stores are very large and can be intimidating to shoppers who may not frequent the stores often. Knowing which aisle to go to reduces shopper anxiety (and thus, increases conversions).
