eBay Unveils Angie's List Competitor

Posted on 11.14.2013

Watch out Angie’s List, because eBay Hire has officially made its U.S. (beta) debut.

EBay Hire is a platform where professionals can introduce themselves and market the services they offer to local consumers. Through the platform, service providers can create a profile page where customers can learn about the provider's experience, services and rates. Eventually, this platform will also display ads that feature service professionals in relevant product search result pages. For instance, a search for "soccer gear" could turn up eBay Hire ads for soccer coaches, like in the image example below.

Currently eBay Hire does not charge a sign-up fee, as it is still in an experimental stage. It is important to note, however, that after the promotional period ends, the company expects to charge fees for each booking – similar to the fees that are charged when users list and sell items on eBay.com.

At launch, eBay Hire is working with associations from the Professional Tennis Registry, the U.S. Golf Teachers Federation and the National Soccer Coaches Association of America in order to reach prospective service professionals.
