Embed Google Maps, Stay Tuned for Ads

Posted on 11.28.2013

Google Maps can again be incorporated into websites, thanks to a newly released embed feature announced on Google’s Geo Developers Blog.

Site owners simply need to make sure they have opted in to the new Google Maps and can then click on the gear icon on the lower right corner of the map in order to copy and paste the HTML snippet into their site. With the new embedded maps, site visitors can sign in to see relevant content like their saved places. Plus, they can also save a location from the embedded map for later viewing on desktop or mobile devices.

That said, the most interesting piece of data from Google’s announcement is a new ad experience that will soon be available.

“Over the coming weeks we’ll be introducing a new ad experience we think is attractive for users of the new Google Maps embed,” the blog post states. “This new on-map design will allow relevant local businesses to connect with your users, similar to the ads you currently see in the new Google Maps and Google Maps for Mobile.”
