F8 Roundup & 13 More Social Updates – April 2016 Social Snapshot

Facebook dominated the headlines in April, in part because of the social network’s annual F8 Developer Conference that took part in the first half of the month.

F8 has come to be known for its big announcements, which this year included bots for Messenger and a new “save” button. In addition to all of Facebook's announcements, however, there were several other social updates that Web professionals should be aware of, including some acquisition news and improved video discovery for Instagram.

Hootsuite Amps Up Its Social Selling Capabilities – Hootsuite acquired mobile app Sales Prodigy. The acquisition is expected to help customers of the social media management company quickly and easily find selling opportunities and start conversations with prospects in real time on social networks.

Facebook Launches Object Recognition Tech – Facebook unveiled a new feature for the blind and vision impaired, dubbed automatic alternative text (or automatic alt text).

Social Overload: Postano Goes to Sprinklr – Social media marketing solution Sprinklr is improving its image ad video tracking capabilities with its acquisition of visual marketing platform Postano.

Springbot Gets Visual with Social, Adds Behavioral Triggers to Email – Springbot released two new features for its e-commerce marketing platform, one of which is Advanced Shoppable Instagram. This update supports customized landing pages and minimizes the steps to checkout allowing consumers to quickly purchase items promoted on Instagram.

Bigger Commerce Opportunities for Facebook Shop – A partnership between Facebook and BigCommerce enables merchants to create a custom Facebook Shop on their company's Page to display and promote curated product collections, allowing shoppers to discover new products, subscribe to updates when new items are added and purchase them through the business’ online store.

Conversational Messaging with Zendesk and Facebook –Zendesk developed a customer engagement application for Facebook Messenger. The offering combines automated interactions with live support conversations directly within Facebook's Messenger system in order to help brands assist customers.

A New Way to Watch Vines – Vine introduced a new “Watch” button that enables users to see the story of a channel with Vines playing back to back.

Instagram Improves Video Discovery – Instagram announced that it is rolling out a new look for its Explore tab that features video channels.

Identify Promoted Posts on Social – Unmetric expanded the availability of its Promoted Post Detection feature to its Analyze product.

Offer Customized Coupons in Exchange for Social Shares – 3dcart teamed up with social marketing app Coopt to help merchants incentivize social sharing. 

2016 Roundup: Facebook’s Big F8 Announcements – As always, Facebook’s annual F8 Developer Conference was home to several big announcements, including the opening up of its Live API, bots for messenger, a profile expression kit, save button and more.

Group Calling Arrives on Facebook Messenger – Messenger users can now leverage group calling in the latest version of the app.

Facebook’s Latest Algorithm Update – In yet another News Feed algorithm update, Facebook is trying to ensure that users see the most relevant stories at the top of their feeds.

Trapit Adds a CMS to Its Social Selling Platform – Social selling platform Trapit unveiled a new content management system to help companies upload, organize, manage and publish assets for sales and marketing.
