Facebook Adopts OAuth Security Measures
Following the recent Facebook security flaw uncovered by Symantec, both companies issued recommendations for users and third-party app developers looking to plug any data leaks once and for all. Facebook is putting the word out to developers that it will be migrating to the newer OAuth 2.0 open standard by September 1, and that all developers will need to obtain their SSL certificates by October 1. The migration to OAuth was already a planned security measure also taken by Twitter in late 2010, but then it was fast-tracked by Facebook after the discovery of a bug that potentially compromised millions of users’ personal data. In the meantime, Symantec warned, Facebook users would be wise to change their passwords as soon as possible.
