Facebook's New Messenger Chat Plugin for Websites

Social customer service just took a big step forward.

A new version of Facebook's Messenger platform (v2.2) will reportedly come with a customer chat plugin that will enable businesses to engage in conversations with customers on their own websites.

This capability has long been requested by brands using the social media service and its Messenger platform, and provides businesses an opportunity to start a conversation on their website and transition to Messenger (or do so in the other direction) and not lose any of the chat history. That's going to prove quite convenient for users and highly attractive to social media marketers desperate to prove the value in the channel.

The chat plugin works across desktop and mobile (yes, tablets too) and will even support other Messenger capabilities including payments and rich media.

The feature is actually still in beta but social-minded enterprises willing to give the new plugin a go can join a wait list.

Is the new Messenger customer chat plugin something you would be interested in using on your own website?
