Flowers Don't Sell Themselves

Picking out the right flowers is no easy task. Many flowers have specific meanings and picking one at random can put you at risk to send some mixed messages.

Luckily, those of us who know next to nothing about the symbolization of flowers can turn to floral wire service companies to set us in the right direction.

AdGooroo, a search marketing intelligence company, has released data which details Paid Search activity in the Flowers and Gifts category during Q1 of 2014. According to the data, advertisers in this category spent more than $15.4 million on Google AdWords Desktop/Tablet search ads. Floral wire service companies 1800Flowers.com, ProFlowers.com and FTD.com were the category leaders for money spent in the Paid Search on Desktop/Tablet.

Coming in at number one with 23.5 million Desktop/Tablet impressions was ProFlowers.com. Nipping at their heels was 1800Flowers.com with 23 million impressions. After first and second place, there was a considerable drop in the amount of impressions with FTD.com registering 13.5 million for the third place finish.

However, mobile shook things up. Finishing in first with 2.5 million impressions was 1800Flowers.com with ProFlowers.com finishing in second with 2.3 million. One the other hand, EdibleArrangements.com finished in third with 1.9 million while FTD.com fell to fifth.

With Mother’s Day falling into Q2, it will be interesting to see if the standings remain the same or if there is movement within the ranks.
