From Smartphone to Biz Phone with Ease

While messaging apps and chat bots seem to get most of the attention these days among the digerati, the phone still manages to play an important role for businesses looking to enhance the customer experience.

Why? Consumers use their phones... and they like it when businesses prioritize the channel. 

Nearly 70 percent of respondents in a GoDaddy and SurveyMonkey survey, for example, prefer to contact businesses by phone if it is their first interaction with them and 89 percent of respondents are more likely to trust a business if they answer the phone in a professional manner.

But are businesses prepared to manage phone calls? In most cases the answer is a resounding no, but add a little enterprise-level technology and you're in a far better position to do so. 

GoDaddy, for example, has announced the launch of SmartLine, an app (available for both iOS and Android) that provides small business owners with a dedicated business phone number with all the features of a professional phone system (and all while being accessible from their existing smartphone).

GoDaddy Smartline customers will be able to separate their personal and professional calls (and texts), specify business hours for when the phone rings, choose a local number based on their area code, and have access to a range of other features including customizable voicemail, scheduling features and more. SmartLine will reportedly offer paid features like vanity numbers and toll-free numbers later this year.

Currently, GoDaddy is offering the Smartline app in two plans (both plans are free for one month) for $3.99/mo (100 texts, 100 phone calls) and $9.99/mo for unlimited.

"Traditionally, small business owners would have to go out and purchase another mobile phone or fixed line phone for their business, which is cumbersome and expensive," said GoDaddy Senior Vice President and General Manager of Telephony Barry Saik. "SmartLine is defined by its simplicity. Setup only takes a matter of minutes and customers can then manage their entire professional phone system directly from their smartphone."
