If you're a marketer with an offline presence (brick and mortar), hopefully you already see the value in promoting that business with the myriad of local-focused opportunities online (Yelp, Judy's Book, Website Magazine has given a good deal of attention to these services and today comes another - another major one.

Several months back, Google launched 1-800-GOOG-411, a free telephone service that lets users search for businesses by voice and get connected immediately. Today Google announced an improvement to that service which is worthy of note and should be a catalyst to secure or improve your local Google listing. Users can now say "map it" to receive a text message with the details of your search plus a link to a map of you results right on a mobile phone.

You can create a free listing within the Local Business Center at Google. Doing so will enable you to reach new customers on Google Maps and Google (as well as through the Goog 411 service). It works well for businesses of any size and you can update your listing at any time.
