Google Enhances Mobile Search Results for Holiday Rush

As consumers kick their shopping activities into high gear, it's vital that merchants take advantage of every opportunity that is presented to them in order to maximize their holiday profits.

Google has recently announced that it is enhancing its mobile search results by adding additional product information on search engine results pages (SERPs).

When users search for a specific product on their smartphone or tablet, they will now see an expandable product card with detailed information including product reviews and specifications. For example, users that search for a Nexus 10 will see the image of the product, merchants that carry the tablet, reviews and details such as weight, operating system and screen size.

Google has also announced it is bringing the local shopping experience to tablets with the introduction of local inventory ads. With this move, tablet users will be able to see where they can purchase their queried product as well as how far away the store is.

“More than ever, people are searching on their devices at all hours and places,” states Google’s blog post. “As a result, we’ve seen a 3.5X increase in shopping searches coming from smartphones year-on-year, and this continues to grow. And we’re currently sending more mobile traffic to retailers per week from Google Shopping than we did during the peak of last holiday season. So we're making it easier to find the information and images people need to make shopping better on mobile.”
