Google Makes Massive Renewable Energy Buy
Google has made a significant investment in renewable energy, announcing a commitment to power 100 percent of its business from green energy sources.
Touting it as the “largest, and most diverse, purchase of renewable energy ever made by a non-utility company,” Google revealed that it has added 842 megawatts (MW) of renewable energy to its data centers, nearly doubling the amount of clean energy it bought previously.
Google is not alone among Internet companies in using green energy. Apple, for example, has long invested in solar farms, while Microsoft is buying wind energy. Amazon also committed to running its Amazon Web Services (AWS) offering on renewable energy as well.
