Google Trends Quick Hit: Wine, Cheese and Turkey

Posted on 10.22.2008

As the weather begins to chill, so do consumers. Taking a quick look at 2007 Google Trends, searches in the U.S. for wine, cheese and turkey start to heat up right about now. Turkey, of course, peaks right at the end of November, followed by a sharp decline, then takes another jump towards the end of December. Wine and Cheese, however, start climbing now and don't stop until after the new year. What does this mean to you?

Take a look at the chart below.

Consumers are getting ready for the holidays and festivities are being planned. So, if you're an affiliate and sell any of these products - or related products - now is a good time to start allocating some of your PPC budget towards these topics and their keywords, especially turkey - even stuffing, gravy recipes and the like. You'll want to scale back those bids right after Thanksgiving, then set yourself a reminder to ramp it back up towards the middle of December. As for wine, cheese and their related products (perhaps wine glasses, cheese knives, fancy crackers) you might want to plan a steady increase, with your maximum bids leading up to the first of the year. It's true, spending may be down this year, but going even farther back with these trends, they have repeated themselves as far back as Google Trends has data, since 2004.
