Holiday Cheer - March 2012 'Net Briefs

Posted on 1.26.2012

Ecommerce solutions provider Ability Commerce reported an “explosion” in 2011 holiday shopping sales from Android-powered mobile devices, although Apple’s iOS platform was still its top revenue driver. Android transactions jumped up by 52 percent, and revenue from the devices grew 173 percent from the 2010 holidays. The growth of Android-based mobile shopping likely has a lot to do with the number of tablets released in 2011 that utilize Google’s operating system. Apple, however, saw iOS transactions grow by 338 percent, with the iPad leading the way with a 280-percent revenue increase over 2010. Overall, mobile shopping was as a huge success during the 2011 holidays.
