HTTPS Enabled on All Blogspot Domain Blogs
After testing out HTTPS support for blogspot domain blogs last September, Google is now bringing HTTPS support to every blogspot domain blog.
The change means that visitors can now access any blogspot domain blog over an encrypted channel. As part of the launch, Google notes that it is removing the HTTPS availability setting because even users who have not turned the feature on will now have an HTTPS version of their blog enabled.
It is important to note that Google has added a new setting called HTTPS Redirect, which allows users to opt-in to redirect HTTP requests to HTTPS. This setting will redirect all visitors to the HTTPS version of a blog even if they initially type in the HTTP version. Google also notes that mixed content, which refers to HTML content that is loaded over an HTTPS connection but other resources (like images or videos) are loaded over an HTTP connection, may cause some issues.
“Mixed content is often caused by incompatible templates, gadgets, or post content. While we're proactively fixing most of these errors, some of them can only be fixed by you, the blog authors. To help spot and fix these errors, we recently released a mixed content warning tool that alerts you to possible mixed content issues in your posts, and gives you the option to fix them automatically before saving,” Google said in its announcement.
Blog authors should also know that existing links and bookmarks to their blogs will not be affected by the HTTPS update. Blogs on custom domains, however, do not yet have HTTPS support.
