Identify Returning Visitors Across Devices

Posted on 9.07.2015

Netbiscuits is helping Web pros identify customers across devices, as the mobile software solutions provider unveiled a new cross-device identification tool.

The tool, dubbed Visitor ID, can be leveraged to recognize returning Web visitors regardless of device used to access the site. With the tool, marketers can get a single-view of a visitor’s behavior across their multi-device journey, which can help them improve the user experience and boost marketing conversions.

Every time a visitor loads a Web page, for example, Netbiscuits performs an anonymous device detection check, combined with cookies and tags, to create a unique Device ID. Then, this number is cross-checked against previous IDs to identify a returning visitor. Each Device ID is then associated to a single user and delivered as a combined Visitor ID. Plus, Visitor ID from Netbiscuits uses device fingerprinting built on the company’s Device Detection solution, which enables marketers to identify returning customers even if cookies and Web history is no longer present. This makes Visitor ID longer lasting than tools that just use cookies.

It is also important to note that data from Visitor ID can be integrated into an organization’s own database or CRM system. Moreover, the tool helps brands increase conversions because they are able to deliver targeted content to visitors, including content that matches a customer’s device and context.
