IN FOCUS: Bolt & The Future of Seamless Ecommerce

Amazon serves as the benchmark Web and mobile shopping experience (generating half of all online sales during holiday 2017 tends to do that) and online retailers are seemingly now always on the lookout for solutions that will enable them to compete on a more level playing field with the e-commerce giant. 

If such a solution exists, all-in-one payments platform Bolt believes it is worthy of consideration. What Bolt hopes will make its platform appealing to sellers is that it essentially helps them create a more seamless payment system, eliminating multiple products from their existing payments "stack" which can often lead to clunky, diffcult to manage experiences for both businesses and their users.

And online retailers, according to Bolt, are losing both customers and revenue because this is what is happening right now. Existing payment models, suggested Bolt, are highly fragmented, requiring the integration of seperate checkout, payment, and fraud detection systems in a layered construct. The surrounding complexity obviously can present some serious challenges for those looking to avoid implementing additional hurdles, barriers and challenges for users during theirconversion journey.

How good is this "end-to-end payment stack"? The company claims that its solution generates between 10%-50% more "new found" revenue for every ecommerce company that installs it (and it has hundreds of large online merchants already using its product). That's a pretty wide range, of course, and results are likely to vary. 

But here's where the Bolt story gets interesting - since Bolt provides a "truer" end-to-end payment processing system, the data it gathers from across the stack can be used to better train fraud detection algorithms. Makes sense, right? With far lower fraud rates in general, Bolt is able to provide a "zero-fraud guarantee" to merchants because of the visibility enabled by its integrated system, allowing more qualified transactions to occur.
