Inside Look at Sedo Domain Sales for Q3
Sedo released its quarterly Domain Market Study, an overview of the previous quarter at the domain name marketplace. While not neccessarily reflective of the global demand for domain names, it is important to review - particuarly if you're a domain name owner/ seller and brand owner.
There are quite a few highlights worthy of note. The .COM and .DE extensions remain the most frequently sold - in total, 49% of Sedo's sales were .com's. Other extensions are not fairing as well. The .Co extension for example dropped off from last quarter and now totals just 2% of all sales at Sedo.
The actual sales and process for selling is also worth a look. 38% of all sales at Sedo came from offer-counter offer negotiations while 32% of sales was from buy it now listings.
The cost of domains is seemingly dropping as well and there does not seem to be nearly the value there once was. Nearly half of all sales were for $500 or less, and sales of $50,000 or more accounted for only 1% of all sales. The average .com sale dipped to $2,496 this quarter from $3,114 last quarter
